The American Israel Numismatic Association was founded in 1967 as a non-profit educational organization under the laws of The State of New York dedicated to the study and appreciation of Israel’s numismatics, past and present, and all aspects of Judaic and Holy Land numismatics. AINA is a non-sectarian democratically organized, membership group.

Starting in 1968, AINA has published The Shekel, The Journal of Israel and Jewish History and Numismatics four times a year. Beginning in 2020, AINA has published The Shekel in both digital and (optional) printed versions.. This illustrated magazine is prepared for the enlightenment and entertainment of the membership by talented writers from around the world.

AINA awards the Shekel Prize annually to the best publication on the subject of Ancient Judaean, Holy Land, Israel, or Jewish Numismatics.

AINA’s annual board meeting is held either in-person, via zoom, or otherwise, usually in July or August.

All new AINA members will receive this "Challenge Coin," commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Women’ Suffrage in the United States.
